After seeing the designs created by this designer at a children’s obesity charity fashion show, I knew I had to learn more. Fatima K.’s line screams modern, edgy, confident rebel, with a twist. I love the dark colors, usage of lines and structure. Fatima K.’s style is very fashion forward and I had the honor of picking the designer’s brain a little bit.

Q: Who is Fatima K.?
A: I’d consider myself an artist…a lifelong student and a businesswoman.
Q: What inspires you to design?
A: I love fashion design and how clothing can be a manifestation of who someone is or who they wish to be. Being able to design a garment that satisfies that want is amazing. As a designer our creations can really affect the wearers lives and that’s what inspires me to design.
Q: Who is your favorite designer and why?
A: I honestly can’t choose a single favorite designer! At the moment I love Haider Ackermann’s work, I love Ann Demeulemeester’s work, and I‘m a fan of Olivier Theyskens and what he’s doing with Theyskens Theory.

Q: What is the design aesthetic of Designs by Fatima K.?
A: Things may change form time to time but what always stays is the idea of clothes that the coolest kid wears around town. It’s cool, a little dark, with a hint of masculine charm.
Q: Who is your target customer?
A: My target/ideal customer is a confident individual who believes they look great in whatever they’re wearing. It doesn’t matter what you’ve got on, if you don’t believe you look good in what you’re wearing you wont.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring designers?
A: My advice for aspiring designers is to do as many design related activities as possible. Get involved in the fashion community in your area so you can network and learn the biz from the bottom up.
Q: What should we expect from Designs by Fatima K. for the Spring/Summer 2012?
A: You should expect a lot from Fatima K. for S/S2012. We’re still keeping it cool with that masculine flare but with a fresh modern appeal.
Q: What is your ultimate goal?
A: My ultimate goal as a designer is to have a brand that is known for beautiful quality clothes. I wish to give in some way to the fashion community and be a designer that contributes to the fashion world that I love so much.
